Important step forward towards improving#soilhealth in Europe! 🐛🌿Did you know that in a healthy handful of soil there are 50+ billion bacterias? Healthy soils are at the basis of sustainable food production and play a key role in fighting climate change and its effects, for example by strengthening Europe's resilience facing potential natural disasters. However, much of our soil is currently in poor condition. As European Parliament rapporteur for Soil Monitoring and Resilience Directive I welcome today's vote in the European Parliament's Environment Committee. It will give the tools to farmers and foresters to protect our much-needed soils.Progresívne SlovenskoRenew Europe

🌍🌱🌏Denmark is ambitious regarding #sustainable transformation of #agriculture and #food systems. How to share and activate experiences from a world class Danish agriculture and food sector was discussed at today’s meeting between Minister for Development Cooperation and Global Climate Policy, Mr. Dan Jørgensen and Food Nation Denmark; Torben Ladegaard, Mie Ole Lauritzen and Lise Christiansen Walbom. At #COP28 the first ever Declaration on Sustainable Agriculture, Resilient Food Systems and Climate Action was launched. This is an unprecedented acknowledgement of food systems - and the connection to #climate mitigation and adaptation. The follow up on the Declaration is among others about sharing solutions needed to combat climate change – solutions and innovative technologies that Danish companies already possess today and are ready to scale up and deliver on.➡️ Find the White Paper on climate right here: https://lnkd.in/e4MMzDjh

It was a true honor to be invited to the World Health Summit as a minister of climate and environment. It shows us we are finally breaking down the barriers between environmental, animal and human health; and that we are truly encompassing the concept of “One Health“.The One Health Framework is a true opportunity to fundamentally shift the way we view our health and how we take care of our planet. The framework embraces the need for deep prevention, prevention aimed at the drivers of our health and well-being. It acknowledges the dangers the triple environmental crisis of climate change, biodiversity loss and pollution poses for humanity. Socio-ecological aspects are indispensable if we talk about health. We need a green and just transition to protect the One Health. We can leave no person and no place behind in doing so!www.worldhealthsummit.org

When the climate crisis affects public health:Ministers of Health and Environment of the WHO European Region recognised the need for further action to fight climate change that affects human health by signing the Budapest declaration on Friday (7 July).“The chances to see a massive pandemic that would be as devastating as COVID within twenty-five years is about 52%”, alerted Kőrösi, president of the UN General Assembly.Rising temperatures and biodiversity decline are strongly linked to increases in the risk of zoonotic diseases, those that are transmitted from animals to humans, like Zika or dengue. As already seen in theEU plan to tackle antimicrobial resistance (AMR), lawmakers emphasise the need to take a One Health approach in policy-making,ensuring the inclusion of human, animal and plant health and their interactions with the environment.Jean-Yves Stenuick Cristina Pricop Lars Münter Viktor Jósa Rosa Castro EFN - Paul De Raeve Jack Fisher Jack Hunter Natasha Azzopardi Muscat https://lnkd.in/ewmge7fQ
